Bach's Invention No.1
06 June, 2022
Sympathetic expressions, chamber music at its finest.
Bright jubilance and dramatic tension. This arrangement of JS Bach’s celebrated Invention No.1 in C gives a fresh take on this evocative work with two voices in passionate dialogue.
This two-part Invention in C major by JS Bach, arranged here for Oboe and Violin depicts a pair of chattering characters calling and responding to one another with harmonious repartee. It’s a conversation of bright jubilance and dramatic tension, showcasing the two instruments’ flexibility and nuanced sensitivity. The Sydney Symphony’s Associate Concertmaster Harry Bennetts and Associate Principal Oboe Shefali Pryor explore interweaving gestures inside the rich acoustic of the Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room, giving lush reverberations to this timeless music.
