Come behind the scenes at our recent Professional Development Workshop for the Music That Makes You Move Schools Concert.
In the lead up to our next Schools Concert, Music That Makes You Move, we hosted another successful Professional Development Workshop.
Hosted at the University of Technology Sydney, teachers had the opportunity to explore inspiring, creative ideas to support music making and learning in their classrooms. Our Professional Development Workshops are created to supplement the teacher’s programming around the concert their students will be attending. Professional Development participants using scarves to create movement that depicts rhythm, dynamics, and tempo, as they listen to Music That Makes You Move School Concert repertoire.
“Post-it Slam” activity – What is music? What is Movement? What is Dance? Does music influence a dancer’s movement? If so, how? Participants share their thoughts and discuss as a group.
“Movement, Listening, and Performance” in groups, participants explore ideas for students to compose their own body percussion patterns, trying to reflect the changing patterns for different sections of the music they’re listening to.
Teachers transfer pattern ideas from body percussion activities onto Xylophones to explore melodic ideas and composition by combining and rearranging musical motifs from Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Tchaikovsky.
“Organising Sound and Listening” While listening to Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Tchaikovsky, teachers create graphic notation using junk materials that demonstrate the pattern ideas.
