Founded in 1932, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra is one of the nation’s flagship cultural institutions.

The Orchestra performs more than 120 performances as part of its regular subscription concert season at the Sydney Opera House. We also collaborate with leading producers and agencies to present open-air concerts, broadcasts and streaming content. In addition to mainstage performances we create programs that develop new artists and future audiences to further enrich the cultural lives of our diverse communities.

Live Auditions

Candidates for the following positions are required to apply online using the links below. Where included, the Audition Pack includes information about the live audition, how to submit a recorded audition if you are unable to audition live, information about the position itself and the repertoire requirements.

Principal Trombone

Audition dates: Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 December 2024
Eligibility: This position is only open to Australian citizens and permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens.

Violin 2 Tutti

Audition dates: Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 September 2024

Casual Musician: Expressions of Interest

To express your interest in auditioning for casual musician work with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (or to be notified when recruitment opens for a position in your instrument) please submit the form below.

There are no set dates for casual auditions. Auditions are scheduled at mutually suitable times throughout the year. Your details will be held on file until the Orchestra has a need for more casual players of your instrument, at which time you will be contacted.

Customer Service Representative

As a Customer Service Representative, you’ll be using your interpersonal skills to speak with our existing customers about their season concerts. You will be answering calls, emails, and using webchat to provide our supporters with information about their concert choices, the range of season ticket options, and taking the opportunity to up-sell and cross-sell. You will process sales through our ticketing systems.

Sales Representative (Box Office Sales)

In this role as a Sales Representative, you will be learning outbound calling sales skills by speaking with our existing customers about renewing their tickets, talk to ticket holders about donations, and conduct service check ins with current subscribers. You will be providing them with information about their concert choices, the range of season ticket options, and taking the opportunity to up-sell and cross-sell to help your team hit daily targets. It’s also an opportunity to provide additional service to our current customers. You will process sales through our ticketing and customer systems.

Publicity Manager

The Publicity Manager is responsible for interfaces with all external media and stakeholders, creating and positioning the best possible public image for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and supporting the entire organisation with the development, execution and management of all corporate communications, media/ PR and publications. The role develops, writes, edits and oversees public written and verbal messaging.
